About Blacksburg Parks
All of the parks offer a wide variety of amenities including playgrounds, natural areas, sports fields, horseshoe courts, horseshoe rentals, and shelters that are available to rent for just about any event. In addition the Blacksburg Parks & Recreation staff uses the parks for many different programs and activities offered throughout the year. In fact, in the past year alone the parks and recreation department has offered in excess of 700 programs including trips, adventures, camps, lessons and special events for residents of all ages.
There is also a greenway system in and around Blacksburg made up of miles of walking and biking trails that link the many beautiful places around town.
About the Blacksburg Community Center
The community center is an important part of the Blacksburg Parks and Recreation facilities. The center offers a wide range of activities and programs, including:
• A wide variety of sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, and ping pong
• Fitness programs like aerobics, yoga and Jazzercise
• Social activities and special interest clubs such as dances, Senior programs and a photography club

The Blacksburg Aquatic Center
The Blacksburg Aquatic Center is open year around for recreational swimming, lessons, and for birthday parties. With a six-lane, 25-yard pool there are a wide variety of classes offered beyond standard swimming lessons. The water exercise programs include aqua boxing and a program specifically for residents who suffer from arthritis.
Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Annual Activities
In addition to the many parks, facilities, classes and programs that the parks and recreation department manages in and around town, there are also a number of seasonal events that are sponsored by the department. For example, there is a Blackburg community 4th of July celebration complete with music and fireworks. At Easter time, the parks and recreation team welcomes the Easter bunny and facilitates a huge Easter Egg Hunt with 10,000 eggs! Autumn in Blacksburg brings Halloween festivities with games and treats; and as the winter holidays approach the town’s Holiday Parade is a great way for residents to get into the spirit of the season.
The Golf Scene in Blacksburg
Golf is very popular in Blacksburg and the New River Valley area. There are several courses including the River Course, located in Radford which was designed by Pete Dye and is the home golf course to the Virginia Tech golf team. Other area golf courses include:
• Golf at the Hill, a nine-hole city course in Blacksburg
• The Meadows, which is located in the nearby town of Christiansburg
• Auburn Hills, which is also a residential community and is located nearby in the town of Riner
